Survivor Philippines: Palau

''Survivor Philippines: Palau'' is the second season of the Philippine version of the reality television series ''Survivor''.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Survivor Philippines Season 2 will begin nationwide auditions )〕 The show started airing on August 17, 2009 on GMA Network.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=‘Survivor Philippines: Palau’ starts Monday )
Auditions were held in key cities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The winner will receive ₱3,000,000 (around US$65,000), the largest ever cash prize in the history of Philippine reality game shows, and the title ''Pinoy Sole Survivor''. Paolo Bediones returned as the host of the show.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Survivor Philippines Season 2 audition dates and venues )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Survivor Philippines opens auditions for second season )
Reports of the season being shot in Palau were leaked by local media in the said country when its president, Johnson Toribiong, reversed an order which required members of the Philippine crew to pay US$500 each, saying that the fee was discriminatory and his actions were the result for his desire to promote tourism in his country.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Palau president drops fee for Philippines Survivor team )〕 The show later confirmed the reports and the location on its blog on July 26, 2009, further elaborating that the season would take place in the island of Peleliu,〔(Survivor Philippines Season 2 Invades Palau Islands ), Survivor Philippines blog〕 located southwest of Koror, where ''Survivor: Palau'' and ''Survivor: Micronesia'' took place.
The tribes for this season, initial tribes ''Airai'' and ''Koror'' and the merged tribe ''Sonsorol'', are named after three of the sixteen states that make up Palau, along with Peleliu. Both names of the initial tribes are also tribe names previously used in the US version: "Koror" in ''Survivor: Palau'' and "Airai" in ''Survivor: Micronesia''.
The season was won by Amanda Coolley Van Cooll with a vote of 4-3-0. Unlike JC Tiuseco's win in the first season, hers was not leaked beforehand and was closely fought between her and Justine Ferrer. Also, there was no public vote to be used as a potential final vote tiebreaker; instead, it was revealed that in case of a tie, a revote would occur.
==Twists and Changes==

*''Second Reward Challenge in a Cycle:'' This was introduced in the 1st Cycle, when the castaways fought only for a piece of flint instead of immunity as initially thought.
*''Immunity from the Winning Tribe:'' Before the merge, the tribe who won the Immunity Challenge would have the power to give immunity to a certain member of the losing tribe who would later go to Tribal Council.
*''Isla Purgatoryo:'' It literally means "Purgatory Island" in English, wherein the actual name of the island is Ngedbus. This is where a recent cast-off is sent to be given a chance to return to the game at the merge by living on the island for as long as possible. The cast-off is given a new "neutral" buff, some supplies and rations, and a piece of flint, and will have only a dog, and the snakes that live on the island (hence the island's alternative name, "Snake Island") for company. The inhabitant also receives part of whatever reward their former tribe has won in a challenge. Only one cast-off would live in the island at any one time; any newcomer would have to compete against the current inhabitant for the right to live in the island; the loser, of course, is completely eliminated from the game. This right is signified by wearing a bracelet attached to one of the eyes of the immunity idol (the other eye has the immunity bracelet). It is based on the "duels" on the sixth Swedish season and the "Island of the Dead" twist on the first season of the Israeli version.
*''Tribal Shuffle:'' This occurred in Cycle 4, where each castaway was blindfolded and randomly selected between a green and an orange lot to determine their new tribe.
*''Cursed, White and Blood Pearls:'' This marked the return of the Cursed (now actually black) and White Pearls from last season, and also introduced a red pearl called the "Blood Pearl". The Blood Pearl served the same purpose as the Cursed Pearl, only, the holder would receive two votes in the next Tribal Council. In case the Blood Pearl is lost, three votes would be counted against the holder.
*''Double Elimination Tribal Council:'' This twist from last season was brought back but with some revisions. In the second Individual Immunity Challenge, the second place winner received a scroll to be opened in the upcoming Tribal Council. After voting off a castaway, it was opened and it revealed that a second round of voting would be held, with the second place winner having the Immunity Necklace be transferred to him/her from the first place winner.
*''Final 3:'' This change, which would later be used in succeeding seasons, separates from the standard Final 2 finalists.
